Ofcom has today (19th July 2021) announced the Bradford Small scale Multiplex has been awarded to the Bradford Digital Media Ltd consortium.
Bradford Digital Media Limited (led by local commercial broadcaster, Sunrise Radio in partnership with local community broadcasters, Sabrang Radio, Marefa Radio and Apni Awaz) applied for the SSDAB multiplex operator’s licence which will reach just over 300,000 adults in and around the city and the ambition is to provide an affordable long-term digital future for many existing broadcasters (community and commercial), as well as new entrants.
Bradford Digital Media brings together a range of specialist skills, local knowledge and combined radio experience of more than 70 years from key members.
Raj Parmar, Director of Bradford Digital Media and Sunrise Radio said “Having served the Bradford community for over 31 years, we are excited to have been awarded the SSDAB Multiplex licence for Bradford and look forward to bringing a variety of radio stations to serve the diverse community of the City ahead of Bradford’s Bid to be City of Culture in 2025”

Qamar Zaman, Director of Marefa Radio and Bradford Digital Media said “Having served the community via radio and TV for many years, I look forward to working with Sunrise Radio and partners on this exciting project for Bradford.”
Work will now begin on establishing the multiplex and the technical plan with guidance from Ofcom and Bradford Digital Media aims to have the multiplex running in 2022.
